Georgia Bans the use of dogs to hunt Quail

Due to declining populations and habitat for the Bobwhite Quail in Georgia, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources instituted a total ban on the use of pointing dogs for the location and/or retrieval of the popular game bird. The ban will take effect beginning with the 2017-2018 hunting season. The only exception to the ban will be the use of a English Setters. The department explained that several studies have shown English Setters have very limited abilities in the field and will not effect the harvesting of quail. “We want hunters to at least feel like they are hunting with a dog!” explained an unnamed DNR officer.
